This anthem was adopted in 1974. In 1976, It was chosen as one of three "national songs" alongside "Waltzing Matilda" and the "Song of Australia". In 1984, it was readopted as a national anthem. Since Australia was in the Commonwealth realm, "God Save The King" was used as a royal anthem. The lyrics got a small change in 2021 to recognise the legacy of Indigenous Australians.
